If a crime takes place at my property, how will the security patrol respond?
The security officer will respond promptly to any incident, notify additional officers if required, and coordinate with the police. It is important that you also contact the police to ensure they are fully informed. Our security team is dedicated to safeguarding you and your property and will, if necessary, detain individuals until the police arrive. All officers are trained in restraint techniques and equipped with body cameras to document all activities.
Why do I need to join BPPS if I already have an alarm and/or security gates?
While alarms and security gates provide protection, they rely on timely intervention to be truly effective. BPPS offers a rapid response from dedicated security officers, ensuring immediate action when it matters most. Unfortunately, police response times are no longer consistently reliable. By joining BPPS, you not only gain access to this swift support but also help strengthen a community-driven initiative that enhances safety for everyone.
Do non-members benefit from the patrols?
While non-members may benefit indirectly from the presence of regular patrols in the area, direct services such as responses to incidents or assistance are reserved exclusively for members and their properties.
Is my money at risk at any point?
No, your funds are held by BPPS and paid monthly for services provided. BPPS bank accounts are controlled by the committee and supervised by an independent firm of accountants.
Do the Police approve of this service?
Yes, MLB is run by ex-police officers, and they maintain an excellent working relationship with local police officers.
Will the amount I pay increase each year?
The costs are designed to remain stable, with adjustments only for inflation after the first two years, assuming membership numbers remain consistent—hopefully, no one leaves! If more residents join and membership grows significantly, we plan to reinvest in the service by expanding hourly coverage or introducing additional patrols. Conversely, if more residents leave than join, costs may need to be adjusted to maintain the current level of service.
What evidence is there that the patrols are effective? Have crime rates dropped where they have been introduced?
In similar areas to ours, the introduction of security patrols has been shown to reduce criminal activity by up to 67%. Members prominently display a large security plaque outside their homes, signifying their participation in the initiative. This serves as a strong deterrent, supported by Met Police crime data showing that members are less frequently targeted than non-members.
How can I get to know the security patrol team better?
If you would like to meet our guards, please email us at admin@bpsecurity.co.uk and we will arrange for them to visit you and introduce themselves at a time to suit you. For security reasons, we will not publish their details on a public website.
